Optimization Of Process Parameters For Peak Temperature During Friction Stir Welding Of Aluminum Alloy

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Friction stir welding is a solid state joining method used to join materials which cannot be joined by fusion welding. In this method, heat produced due the friction between tool and workpiece weld material. Heat input depends upon amount of caused process parameters such as rotational speed, geometry, axial force etc. present study, effect shoulder pin diameter ratio, speed on peak temperature obtained during aluminum alloy were investigated using taguchi L9 orthogonal array. ANOVA result shows that ratio (D/d) most significant factor affecting FSW.

Analysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...

Friction Stir Welding Process Optimization: Experimental Methods

Introduction The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process is an innovative technique to join metals in the plasticity field, thus not reaching the melting temperature and consequently the liquid state as it happen in traditional welding processes. This feature of the FSW proved an enhancement of the fatigue behaviour and strength of the joints, leading some companies to adopt the process for the man...

Analytical Investigations of the Effects of Tool Pin Profile and Process Parameters on the Peak Temperature in Friction Stir Welding

In this work, effects of different tool pin profiles of flat and tapered shoulder geometries on the peak temperature in friction stir welding are investigated analytically. The developed models used for the analytical investigations considered the welding process as a combination or mixture of the pure sliding and the pure sticking. From the results, the amount of heat generation and the peak t...

Optimization of process parameters during Friction Stir Welding of Aluminium 5083 & 6082 Alloys

The paper deals with the optimization of welding parameters of friction stir welding of different Aluminium alloy groups. For this purpose 5 series Aluminium alloy Al 5083 and 6 series Aluminium alloy Al 6062 were taken .Tensile Strength test and micro structure analysis under various rotating speeds and tool profiles is conducted. It is observed that the increase in tool rotation speed and the...

Liquation Cracking of Dissimilar Aluminum Alloys during Friction Stir Welding

A liquation cracking mechanism of dissimilar Al alloys during the friction stir welding (FSW) is suggested in this study. To identify the mechanism, the precipitates were analyzed and Al-Mg-Cu phase diagrams were calculated. Electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) analysis and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) were also conducted. In the same manner as constitutional liquation, at high hea...
